Swara Bhaskar: Bhaskar is an award-winning Indian actress in the Hindi Film Industry popularly known as Bollywood. Swara has played a number of critically acclaimed and commercially successful roles in mainstream Bollywood films, independent cinema, and digital and TV series. Since embarking on her film career in 2009, Swara has portrayed various diverse characters in films. Bhaskar gained much of her early success in Tanu Weds Manu in a supporting role as Payal Jassi Gill.Her other roles include Nil Battey Sannata, Raanjhanaa, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Veere Di Wedding, Anaarkali of Aarah to her recent releases such as Rasbhari (Amazon Prime Video), Bhaag Beanie Bhaag (Netflix) , Flesh (Eros Now), and Aapkey Kamre Mein Koi Rehta Hai (MX Player).
Bhaskar is also known to use her platform to voice her views. Especially on Twitter, she posts about her disapproval of the Narendra Modi Government. She has been at protests against Modi’s Citizenship Act, which passed in 2019, and essentially made it more difficult for religious minorities to gain Indian citizenship. At SALA, it will be interesting to hear about Bhaskar’s experience dealing with fans or citizens who don’t agree with her views, as well as how she balances activism and acting.
